James’

Story

James is a 21-month-old boy from Missouri. His mom, Heidi, describes him as the sweetest and most loving boy. He vocalizes a lot throughout the day and loves his momma deeply. When James was 6 months old, his family became aware that he had developmental delays because he was not meeting his early milestones. Today, at almost 2 years old, he cannot hold himself upright, crawl, or walk, and he is not yet talking in full sentences. He needs assistance with all day-to-day activities.

History

James started having seizures when he was 5 months old. The neurology team at the hospital was unable to find the cause, and his family felt their concerns were basically brushed off. They sought a second opinion, which led to genetic testing for James. When he was 8 months old, they received his diagnosis.

For Those Newly Diagnosed

Embrace and celebrate the small victories. If your child is developmentally delayed, they may not be able to do everything a typical child can do, but they do things on their own schedule.
