Meet Shira
Shira Johnson - Executive Director
Shira joins the CACNA1A Foundation with over 20 years of experience working with nonprofits in a variety of executive roles. Her experience includes 5 years in the rare disease space at the Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Foundation. She is passionate about working with families and ensuring the lived experience of patients is at the forefront of her work. Her specialties include program development and evaluation, fundraising, community engagement, strategic planning, and board relations. Shira is a graduate of the Harry S. Truman School of Public Affairs at the University of Missouri, where she received her Master of Public Administration. Additionally, she received her Bachelor of Science in Family Studies from the University of Maryland. Shira is a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE). She currently lives in Sarasota, FL, with her husband, 13-year-old daughter, two goldendoodles, and the family’s horse (who resides at a local barn).
